About Trees for Better Africa.
Trees for Better Africa, initially registered as Mount Kenya Environmental Conservation, was established in 2015 as an environmental conservation organization. Its mission is to restore degraded landscapes while improving the livelihoods of local communities.
Since its inception, the organization has witnessed significant transformation within the communities it serves. Farmers have experienced revitalized land productivity, increased income, and improved household food security. These achievements have been made possible through close collaboration with government institutions, including the Kenya Forest Service and the Ministry of Agriculture, as well as various development partners.
Trees for Better Africa Achievements
Since 2015, Trees for Better Africa has made significant progress in landscape restoration and livelihood improvement. The organization has planted over 500,000 trees in degraded forest areas and more than 8.3 million trees on farms, contributing to healthier ecosystems, improved soil quality, and increased tree cover across communities. These efforts have supported the restoration of degraded landscapes while enhancing farmers’ productivity and resilience.
In addition, Trees for Better Africa has supported more than 300 schools through greening programmes, helping to create healthier learning environments and promote environmental awareness among young people. The organization has also trained over 6,000 farmers in agroforestry practices and facilitated the establishment of 150 community nurseries, strengthening local capacity to grow trees and sustain conservation efforts over the long term.

Trees for Better Africa aims to plant more than 10 million trees by 2030. These trees will be established across farms, forests, and schools to support landscape restoration, enhance environmental health, and contribute to climate action. This ambitious target reflects the organization’s strong commitment to building a greener and more sustainable future.
By expanding tree planting across these landscapes, Trees for Better Africa will improve soil fertility, enhance water conservation, increase biodiversity, and provide shade and shelter for communities. Tree planting in schools will foster environmental awareness among young people, while trees on farms and in forests will strengthen livelihoods and accelerate the restoration of degraded ecosystems.
